Akmatori vs Robusta: Choosing an AI SRE Platform in Late 2026

Robusta is an AI SRE platform with deep Kubernetes roots. It groups alerts into incidents and investigates them with Holmes, the engine behind the open-source HolmesGPT. Akmatori does a similar job: alerts come in, an agent investigates, and the root cause goes to Slack. On October 28, 2026, Freshworks announced it acquired Robusta to bring it into Freshservice, which changes the calculation for teams choosing a platform now.
We build Akmatori. Robusta facts below come from home.robusta.dev, the Robusta repository and the Freshworks announcement, as of November 2026.
At a Glance
| Robusta | Akmatori | |
|---|---|---|
| Open source part | robusta engine (MIT): Prometheus alert enrichment, grouping, playbooks for Kubernetes |
Whole product (Apache-2.0): intake, agent, UI, Slack, memory |
| AI investigation | Holmes, in the Robusta platform | Built into the open-source build |
| Deployment | SaaS, your VPC, or self-hosted with your own LLM key | Self-hosted with Docker Compose |
| Focus | Kubernetes first | Mixed estates: Kubernetes, Linux hosts, Zabbix, NetBox |
| Alert sources | Alertmanager, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, PagerDuty, Splunk, Sentry, webhooks, MCP | Alertmanager, Grafana, PagerDuty, Datadog, Zabbix, Slack channels, cron jobs |
| Outputs | Slack, Teams, Discord, Telegram, Jira, ServiceNow and more | Web UI, Slack; Telegram and Discord for posting |
| Write actions | Read-only by default; remediation is opt-in | Read-only SSH by default; risky actions become proposals approved in UI or Slack |
| Pricing | Quote only; the site's calculator assumes $2.50 per investigation | Free; you pay for your own model usage |
| Owner | Freshworks (since October 2026) | Akmatori team, powered by Gcore |
Where Robusta Is Stronger
Kubernetes depth. Robusta has worked on Kubernetes alerting for years. Its open-source engine enriches Prometheus alerts with pod logs, events and graphs, and its playbooks automate common responses.
Integrations and outputs. Robusta sends incidents to more destinations than Akmatori, including Teams, Jira, ServiceNow, incident.io, Rootly and FireHydrant, and it reads alerts from CloudWatch and Sentry.
The team behind Holmes. Robusta's engineers created HolmesGPT. They know the investigation engine better than anyone. Robusta also has SOC 2, and it describes an incident-learning feature that improves results over time.
Where Akmatori Is Stronger
The full product is open source. In Robusta, the open-source engine is rule-based, and the AI assistant and timeline come with the Robusta platform. In Akmatori, the agent, the dashboard, Slack, approvals, runbooks and memory are all in the Apache-2.0 build you run yourself.
Beyond Kubernetes. Akmatori treats Linux hosts as first-class. It has read-only SSH, Zabbix, NetBox and VictoriaMetrics tools, so the same agent investigates a crashing pod and a full disk on a bare-metal database.
Predictable cost. Akmatori has no per-investigation fee. You pay your model provider, or nothing extra if you host the model. SRE Bench publishes the measured cost per solved incident for each model; in the August 2026 edition, several models found the root cause in all 12 incidents for less than $0.10 each.
Independence from an ITSM suite. After the acquisition, Robusta becomes part of Freshservice and connects with FireHydrant. The announcement says nothing about standalone customers. If your incident process is not built around Freshworks, check Robusta's roadmap before you commit. Akmatori does not depend on any ITSM vendor.
What the Acquisition Means
We do not know Freshworks' plans beyond the announcement, and neither does anyone outside the companies. What is known: Robusta will be integrated into Freshservice and connected to FireHydrant, terms were not disclosed, and nothing was said about HolmesGPT or about standalone Robusta customers. HolmesGPT itself is a CNCF Sandbox project with its own repository. For the engine on its own, see Akmatori vs HolmesGPT.
How to Choose
Choose Robusta if:
- You run Kubernetes almost exclusively and want years of Kubernetes alerting experience.
- You use, or plan to use, Freshservice and FireHydrant.
- You need its broader list of outputs, such as Teams or ServiceNow.
Choose Akmatori if:
- You want the complete product open source, on your own servers, without a per-investigation price.
- You run Linux hosts, Zabbix or NetBox next to Kubernetes.
- You want to stay independent of an ITSM suite.
Conclusion
Robusta is a mature Kubernetes-first AI SRE platform that is now part of Freshworks. Akmatori is an open-source agent for mixed infrastructure with no per-investigation cost. If you are evaluating both, connect the same Alertmanager to each and compare the answers on your own incidents. The Alertmanager guide shows the Akmatori side in a few minutes.
If your team wants AI-assisted incident workflows on your own infrastructure, Akmatori helps SRE teams investigate alerts, coordinate response, and automate safe infrastructure actions. Powered by Gcore for global infrastructure reliability.
